Commencement Eligibility & Participation

If you do not meet eligibility requirements and complete the process below, you will not have access to participate in

      • Any of the in-person graduate celebrations including the Saturday, June 12 Engineering time (10AM-12pm PDT)
      • The Sunday, June 13th UCLA Samueli Virtual Ceremony broadcasting at 12:30pm PDT

Please carefully review each of the following sections.  You must complete each step and meet all eligibility requirement to participate.

  • SUMMER 2020, FALL 2020, and WINTER 2021 graduates should be automatically eligible to participate and may proceed to Steps 2 – 3

  • SPRING 2021 and SUMMER 2021 are eligible to participate and will receive updates if they complete Step 1 – 3

  • FALL 2021 students are not automatically eligible to participate in the engineering commencement.  Students who wish to participate in this year’s ceremony must follow the Special Request instructions below.

Declare your intent to complete your degree in Spring 2021 or Summer 2021 

Engineering Undergraduates do this by Completing the required online degree audit process.

Engineering Graduate students do this by notifying your department student affairs officer of your intent to graduate.

(UCLA Samueli Virtual Ceremony only)

SUBMIT YOUR PHOTO & MESSAGE –  ALL DEGREE CANDIDATES (BS, MS, PHD) are being asked to submit a message and a photo.  Notifications were sent and the deadline has passed.

Deadline to provide phonetic name:  May 13, 2021 (deadline passed)
Deadline to submit your photo/message:  May 20, 2021 @ 11:59pm PDT (deadline passed)

2021 UCLA Samueli Virtual Commencement Marching Orders Slide TemplateHelp us honor and celebrate you by completing your commencement slide!

You will not have access to submit if you do not meet the eligibility requirements.  (See Step 1 to start)

Instructions and Details:

If you meet eligibility requirements by the deadline, you should be receiving an email from: commencement@seas.ucla.edu (via Marching Order) with instructions on how to log in to the Marching Order Platform. Please check your spam filters!

Through Marching Order you may upload a photo, input a personalized message or your thesis title (if PHD), and make sure that your name is pronounced correctly.

We plan to use this along with our degree data to build degree candidate/graduate slides

Because of the production timeline there are hard deadlines to upload your information to this Platform.  After this date, if you are graduating, we will still try to include your name and information, but it can not be personalized with a picture /message or your name will not be read aloud.

​(In person Graduate Celebration only)

UCLA is offering graduate celebrations for the Class of 2021.  This is an opportunity to process, cross the stage, have your name read, and take photos.  Students have the option to participate in one of the options below: 

  • Exclusive, In-Person Celebration for UCLA Samueli Graduates at Drake Stadium 
    Saturday, June 12, 2021, 10:00 A.M.-12:00 P.M. (PDT)

  • UCLA Campus, In-Person Celebration for all graduates across all majors and departments
    June 10 – June 15; various time slots.

SPECIAL REQUEST – FOR FALL 2021 DEGREE CANDIDATES WHO WISH TO PARTICIPATE

Special Request Process and Timeline for Fall 2021 Students

  • UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS – to initiate a Special Request, please complete the undergraduate degree audit process for engineering and answer the additional question on the Statement of Degree Candidacy Form (Question#7)  no later than Friday, April 16, 2021.  Additionally, your degree candidacy MUST be declared via MyUCLA and reflect Fall 2021.
  • GRADUATE STUDENTS – to initiate a Special Request, please contact your graduate student affairs officer no later than Friday, April 16, 2021 to be included in the messaging and aspects of commencement participation for 2021.

Approvals

Undergraduate and Graduate students who followed the above instructions by April 16, 2021 are automatically approved to participate.  Please pay attention to e-mails from commencement@seas.ucla.edu (make sure they do NOT go to spam).

Program Name Listing

Fall 2021 candidates who are approved to participate in the ceremony will not be listed in this year’s 2020-2021 brochure.  You will be listed in next year’s brochure.  Please review the  program name listings section.
